Craft Business - Customer Success Story

Author:Michelle Williams

This week we spoke with Pauline Beesley of Granny Beesley's, who took the leap of faith to start her own Craft Business in August 2017, following a serious health-scare, which forced her to re-evaluate her life.

What did you do before you started your Keepsake Business?

I worked in Education as a Senior Business manager setting up welfare to work programmes across the south of England.
Then in July 2015 I was diagnosed with locally advanced breast cancer. The treatment left me with peripheral neuropathy meaning I couldn't feel the end of my fingers. A friend suggested I started sewing and using clays to get the sensation back - thus began my journey into the world of crafts.

What motivated you to start your Keepsake Business?

After being so seriously ill I wanted a career I enjoyed and would allow me a quality and flexible lifestyle.  We opened a sweet shop firstly, then with the extra floor space we decided we could do children's pottery painting. Then it was suggested I sell some of the crafts I made in my spare time which led to people asking me to teach them, and ideas grew. I now teach classes at local retirement homes, young mums groups etc.

Which Training Courses have you completed so far and please provide some feedback on your experiences.

I have complCeramic Imprints, 3D Baby Casting, Pottery Prints and Memory Bears and in the future I'm planning to attend the 2d, pp, mm and baby prints in the future.

Brilliant I did the 3d casting course and would like to do the glass art and cold cast metals in the near future.

What motivated you to join The Keepsake Guild Ltd?

To be part of a professional community, gain access to continued help and support, help differentiate and add prestige to my business and to get a listng on the GM directory.

What is your experience of being a member of The Keepsake Guild? What do you consider to be the main benefits of Membership?

Discount on courses and access to resources.

What is your experience so far of running your own Keepsake Business and being part of The Keepsake Guild? Please share your highs and lows.

I love being able to teach people skills they didn't know they had. For example when people ask about my memory bears I try and encourage them to come into the shop and make the bear with me which adds that something extra to the finished product. This is a popular way of making the bears I am currently running two classes with a retirement home around the corner and a young mums group.

Please provide a bit of background about your Business and your plans for the future?
The business opened in August 2017 and is quickly growing a reputation as a place to buy and create bespoke and personalised gifts.
We believe that the best gifts come from the heart and at Granny Beesley's the customer is at the heart of everything we do.
